How to fix xbox 360 dvd drive?

My friend's xbox is a Xbox 360 Premium 20Gb Manufacturer date: 2006-08-18. It has a Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943 dvd drive. Now the problem with the xbox is whenever it uses the dvd drive for more than 15 minutes it restarts the xbox and continuously restarts until the xbox is shut off. When the xbox is turned back on the power on blinks and the dvd drive is no longer detected. The only thing that gets it to work is to turn the xbox off for several hours, quickly burn the game onto the hard drive then only play games or videos that do not use the dvd drive. My belief is there is a problem with the pcb in the dvd drive, I want to replace it but i do not know how to fix it without it getting banned. What's the problem and how can I fix it without getting my friend's xbox banned?
