Is society making the effects of child molestation worse?

In some ways I agree. I think it is our culture that makes a HUGE deal out of any kind of ual act. I don't think touching kids is right AT ALL, but I think the drama that surrounds such an event can be more traumatizing then what actually happened in some cases. When everyone gets angry and outraged I think it makes the victim feel huge amounts of shame and embarrment. As if they are a freak of some sort. I can say that because I was molested by an older child when I was 5. I felt like I was completely alone. A few years ago a young female relative of mine was also fondled by an older male child. There were screaming phone calls, accusations, talks of therapy etc. I felt bad for her, because I knew how she felt. I told her that older boys are curious about girls and that that in itself was completely normal. I told her that she shouldn't let them force or guilt her into doing anything that made her uncomfortable. I told her that sort of thing happens to both girls and boys all the time. No one told me those things after it happened to me. I felt like I was the one wearing a scarlet letter.
