Negril or Ocho Rios for a fun time?

I've decided on taking a trip to Jamaica in January. Would you recommend Negril or Ocho Rios? I'm looking for a week of relaxing on the beach during the day, maybe an excursion, and nightlife outside the hotel. What do you advise? Also, are there any hotels you liked? Thanks!
