What are my legal options?

I live next door to an awful older couple who for some reason hate me. The women has called me a not only to my face but to other people in the neighborhood. She is constantly going over to neighbors who our outside and talking behind my back. This is the tip of the ice burg but I won't get into all of it. I want it to stop. I have notified the police and an officer spoke to the couple but I feel that made things worst. What eles can I do? Should I sue them? can I sue them? Help me please. I have a 2 year old son and we play outside a lot and it suck to feel intimidated by the 80 year old couple next door. It's my neighborhood too.
